Tehran Intl. Security Conf. slated for Dec. 11

TEHRAN, Nov. 13 (MNA) – The International Conference on Regional Security Order in the West Asia will be held in Tehran with a number of foreign guests in attendance on 11 Dec., 2016.

The scientific director of the conference, Jalal Dehghani Firouzabadi, made the announcement in a press conference today, while highlighting the significance of the Middle East region and discussing the security order and the prominent role of consultations among thinkers and scholars for determining its mechanism in the region.

He stressed Iran’s special position as one of the regional powers in the West Asia, adding “Iran’s policy is based on order through cooperation of all countries. We believe that regional affairs should be managed by the regional countries themselves, and security order should be localized.”

According to him, Tehran Security Conference will be held annually with its secretariat at the International Studies & Research Institute of Abrar Moaser. Thirteen research centers and think tanks active in the field of foreign policy and international relations will also participate in the event.

“The West Asia includes the Middle East, North Africa, together with Pakistan and Afghanistan,” Dehghani said. “In fact, the recent regional developments have brought various parts of the world closer than ever.”

“Some seek to claim that Iran is after regional hegemony, but that is not true,” he stressed. “We were from the very beginning after collective order, and thus, expressing the actual realities of the region is one of the objectives of the Conference.”

“The Conference will be held on ten different topics. Over 250 abstracts and about 150 papers have been received, and we are evaluating them,” he said.

He noted that the conference will be held at an international level with a number of guests and experts on regional order from other countries.
